<p>Meritus Health is striving to improve the health of the community by attracting and retaining skilled registered nurses to fill critical roles at Meritus Medical Center. As such, Meritus offers scholarship and financial support programs to help alleviate some of the financial burden for those pursuing a career in nursing.</p>
<h2>Meritus Registered Nurse Scholarship Program for Hagerstown Community College and Shepherd University students-Accepting Applications before 3rd semester.</h2>
<p>Meritus Medical Center will fund a portion of the candidate's education in return for a pre-determined length of employment with the hospital after graduation. Meritus will pay for tuition, required books, lab fees, and school-required uniforms as appropriate for a period of up to two semesters. The intent is to attract students at Hagerstown Community College or Shepherd University from Washington County, Md., and Jefferson County, W.Va., but Meritus reserves the right to entertain candidates from other locations. <p>The purpose of this program is to assist current employees enrolled in the Hagerstown Community College/Meritus Joint Nursing Program. <h2>New Graduate Financial Support Program</h2>
<p>This program assists in repaying educational expenses to further the financial wellbeing of nursing resident new graduates who have pursued an associate or bachelor&rsquo;s degree in nursing. Eligible employees include full-time employees (0.9 FTE or greater) who have received an undergraduate degree within the past six months. <h2>Growth and innovation</h2>
<p>Meritus currently offers an ACGME-accredited Family Medicine Residency Program known for its comprehensive training and community-based care. In July 2025, we are excited to launch our newly accredited Psychiatry Residency Program, which will offer a robust curriculum focused on serving the mental health needs of our region. In addition, Meritus is developing a General Surgery Residency Program as well as other residencies and fellowships over the coming years, further broadening the scope of specialized training available at Meritus.</p>
<p>Another key component of this transformative journey to become a leading academic medical institution is the creation of the Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine. This new medical school will offer a unique opportunity for residents to collaborate with osteopathic medical students across all levels of training, fostering a rich, interdisciplinary learning environment.</p>

<p>Meritus Family has several rural residency programs and is the only health system in the state of Maryland to do so. The campus is just 70 miles from Washington, D.C., and Baltimore. Residents care for continuity patients in a 17,000-square-foot-clinic facility. Residents work in the health system's community-based hospital, which is a level three trauma center and additionally houses a newborn special care unit. Some residents work with Meritus affiliate Brook Lane Health Services, the second largest freestanding psychiatric hospital in Maryland.</p>
