Meritus Health Receives Honors, Accreditations for Several Programs

HAGERSTOWN – The Meritus Center for Breast Health received official notification from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers or NAPBC of a three-year/full accreditation designation. This recognition was granted after a rigorous evaluation process, where the center had to be compliant with all standards established by the NAPBC for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease. These standards include proficiency in the areas of center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement. The Meritus Center for Breast Health is located in suite 243 of Robinwood Professional Center right next to the hospital.

Meritus Medical Center’s inpatient rehabilitation area staff was recently notified that the department will continue the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities or CARF recognition after the most recent surveyors’ visit. Promoting quality rehabilitation services through accreditation, CARF assists health care facilities in improving quality of services and meeting international program standards. CARF guidelines are rigorous, but the surveyors “complimented our compassionate, empathetic and professional caregivers; and recognized our clean and well-designed inpatient space, strong medical and clinical leadership, traumatic brain injury program, patient and family centered care and interdisciplinary approach,” according to Khrys Davis, manager of the inpatient rehabilitation program. This is the eighteenth year that the program has been CARF accredited. This accreditation will last through Nov. 30, 2018.

Meritus Medical Center also recently achieved Stage 6 on the Electronic Medical Record Adoption ModelSM (EMRAM), as announced by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society or HIMSS. HIMSS Analytics developed the EMR Adoption Model in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals. Facilities recognized as Stage 6 have achieved a significant advancement in IT capabilities that positions the staff to successfully address many of the current industry transformations in the areas of quality reporting, claims and pay performance. The achievement came from the collaborative work of staff in many areas, including clinical and service excellence, information services, laboratory, medical staff services, nursing, pharmacy and radiology.

Meritus Medical Center’s clinical pastoral education programs are now accredited by both the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy and the Commission on Accreditation of Pastoral and Psychotherapy Training. The clinical pastoral education program is managed by Dr. David Baker, director of spiritual care services at the hospital.
